Fire in a room behind an Automatic Sliding Fire Door

Fire-rated Automatic Sliding Doors

Playing a critical role in modern building safety, fire-rated automatic sliding doors combine seamless accessibility with advanced fire protection. Designed to contain fire and smoke for a designated period, they help protect occupants, maintain escape routes, and support safe evacuation during an emergency. They also provide a fully accessible entrance that meets the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 (incorporating the Disability Discrimination Act).

Since 2004, Automatic Access has supplied and installed high-quality automatic door systems across the UK. Suitable for high-traffic environments, our systems deliver dependable performance while helping buildings meet essential fire safety requirements.

How Automatic Fire-Rated Sliding Doors Work

During everyday use, they function like standard automatic sliding doors, providing easy access to all. However, in the event of a fire alarm or power failure, the system initiates a controlled closing sequence.

Using a counterweight mechanism, the doors close mechanically without relying on electricity, helping to secure building compartments and prevent the spread of flames, smoke, and heat. This dependable operation also helps maintain safe evacuation routes and can reduce the risk of occupants taking the wrong path during an emergency.

Fully Compliant and Certified

Every project is delivered in accordance with current regulations including EN 1634-1, EN 13501-2 and BS EN 16005. Tested and certified to maintain door integrity and insulation for a minimum of 30 minutes (DAS EI230 door set), these systems also comply with DAS regulatory requirements NF 61937-1-3 for all types of PABs, hold AFNOR NF 277 certification and can be seamlessly integrated with fire detection systems.

Suitable Applications

These systems are particularly suited for Public Access Buildings (PABs) and high-footfall environments, including:

  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities
