Access Control

Access Control is a great solution to add that extra level of security into and within a building. An automatic door operator can be easily interfaced with existing systems or if you would like to add an extra level of security this can form part of your door automation project.

We frequently install access control as part of an automatic door installation, as solutions to;

  • Healthcare sector where an out of hours service is in operation to protect employees
  • Sites where no reception desk is present to greet visitors
  • Businesses to allow ease of access for employees
  • Residential apartment blocks including care homes, assisted living etc. to ensure the security of the property and of the residents
  • Card holders

Proximity Reader

  • Radio frequency (RF) technology that grants access to authorised users by detecting a proximity card or key fob when presented to the wall reader.

Coded Digital Pads

  • For quick secure access, simply enter a pre-programmed code into the digital pad to gain access. Great for adding an additional layer of security without the need to carry a card or fob.

Combined Proximity Reader

  • This solution offers the benefit of both a proximity reader and a digital pad in one. Providing enhanced security whilst meeting the needs of specific users. It’s also beneficial in the event of a user forgetting or losing a proximity card/fob.

The above are commonly referred to in the industry as prox readers, digi pads and combined prox readers.

Activation devices include:

  • Proximity Fobs
  • Proximity Cards (credit card style)
  • Proximity Bracelets/wristbands


These devices activate/trigger the door to release or open automatically (if fitted with an automatic door operator) when the fob or card is presented to the reader.

Accessories can also be offered for users such as:

  • Lanyards/badge reel lanyards (plain or branded)
  • Card holders


Alternatively, an intercom system may be more suitable. Intercoms are ideal for sites with new traffic to the building that require access to be controlled and granted. Intercoms are also suitable for organisations that offer an out-of-hours service/access to protect employees. Audio Only Intercom

  • Operation via external caller panel, internal audio only handset is then dialled and upon answering the door release button is released for entry.

Video Entry Intercom

  • Operation via external caller panel, internal video handset is then dialled and once answering the door release button is released for entry.

All In One System

  • Combines Audio or Video Intercom with a Proximity or Digipad Reader to allow for uninterrupted access for residents and employees .

Electronic Locking Devices

Electric Strike

Best suited to single swing aluminium replacement door installations or when retrofitting to timber doors.

These types of locks can only be used on single swing doors. They form part of the door’s construction when an aluminium replacement door is to be installed.

Pros: Discreet and modern solution. This offers one of the best aesthetics.

Magnetic Lock

Perfect for adding access control to existing single or double swing doors.

Pros: Easily retrofitted to existing doors swing doorsets.

Cons: Visible on the secure side of the door.

Shear Magnets or Similar

Best solution when replacing aluminium doors, offering the both security and a good aesthetic as the locking device isn’t visible.

Fitted within the head of the door, these magnets have an excellent holding force.

Pros: Good security and overall aesthetic.

Cons: Expensive and best fitted as part of a new door fabrication.
