Part of the P&O Cruises fleet, MV Britannia was built by Fincantieri at its shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. At 143,000 GT, Britannia is the largest of six ships currently in service with P&O Cruises – she is also the flagship, taking the honour from Oriana.
Automatic Access Ltd. was approached to retro fit automatic doors to 6 disabled toilets and some restaurants onboard the luxury liner.
Our engineers visited the shipyard in France, where the Britannia was undergoing a complete re-fit. One week later and after several long days fitting and testing the equipment, the doors were successfully installed.
So, why didn’t they ask the French to do the work?
“we just trust the UK installers and as its Britannia it had to be Brits that did the fit”.
Well done to our experienced engineers!
Lead engineer Ben has considerable experience in fitting our products abroad. He tested 27 automation units in the UK and all associated equipment for the install of the Trauma Hospital doors in Kandahar, Afghanistan. After shipping the equipment, he travelled almost 5000 miles, did the job while the base was under attack, and returned home after two weeks without a scratch! He has also installed in Guernsey and the Isle of Skye.
Automatic Access has secured a good reputation overseas, including a Greek Island and Ghana.
