Automatic Access has completed a project for a high security government organisation to ensure its premises comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
With the original installation, the doors weren’t wide enough for DDA compliance.

Buildings should be open to the public and be accessible to everyone, including people who use wheelchairs and those with other disabilities.
Upgrades required
As providers of high-quality automatic door solutions, we were happy to undertake the project, after initially being approached by the project manager of the electrical and mechanical contracting company.
The customer also required an interface to the fire alarm to program the door to open and remain open in the event of a fire – until a reset of the system was performed.
As a fire exit, it was necessary to provide a battery backup to the operator to comply with the current fire exit doors regulations UK, particularly since the door opens into the building.
Tim Moore, our Technical Sales Consultant, was the lead sales advisor on this project. He designed the best possible solution for the environment.
Advantage of the new doors
Automatic doors for businesses allow ease of access for everyone. The premises are now DDA compliant, thanks to the new, wider door leaf and low-level ramped threshold.
The automatic door operator is now interfaced with the existing access control, which means when a code is entered into the external reader, or fob swiped, the door will open automatically.
Thanks to our DDA disabled door systems, the entrance/exit is also compliant with fire officers’ requirements.
Having the battery backup fitted means the door complies with the current mandatory safety requirements as a fire exit route for an inward opening door.
